National Honor Society
Membership Qualifications


1. 3.3 GPA no grades less than 70
• Students invited to apply if and only if they meet the academic qualifications. GPAs are confirmed by advisors.

2. Character
• A list of candidate names is distributed to the faculty and the faculty is asked to submit written concerns/issues to be brought to the attention of the Faculty Council. These concerns/issues include but are not limited to plagiarism/cheating, attitude/demeanor etc.

3. Discipline
Students must have a record free of
- Suspensions
- No extended detention
- No more than 1 office detention per school year
4. Teacher Recommendations
• Students must obtain the written recommendation of two (2) LHS teachers.

5. Long Term Community Service
• Students must demonstrate involvement in at least one long term community service activity.
• Long term community service is defined as involvement in a project consisting of a minimum twenty (20) hours of service/work over minimum two (2) month period.
• All involvement must be confirmed in writing by an adult supervisor.
• This requirement can be fulfilled in or out of school.
• Paid work (currency, goods, and services) will not be considered.

6. Short Term Community Service
• Students must demonstrate involvement in two (2) short term community service activities.
• Short term community service is defined as involvement in a project consisting of less than twenty (20) hours of service/work over less than a two (2) month period.
• All involvement must be confirmed in writing by an adult supervisor.
• This requirement can be fulfilled in or out of school.
• Paid work (currency, goods, and services) will not be considered.

7. School Organization/Activity
• Students must demonstrate written evidence of membership in two (2) school organizations, teams, activities or clubs

8. Leadership
• Students must demonstrate an example of leadership. All examples must be confirmed in writing by and adult supervisor/observer.
